#OneWord2021

I don’t know when or how this “tradition” started, but every year people around the United States and I’m guessing around the world come up with a word that will push them onward into the new year! You can view various words on twitter by entering #OneWord2021, it’s trending. #grace #restore #kind

Many families do it together, and we were no exception. We had a virtual family game night hosted by my Cousin Dominique on New Year’s Eve. After Family Feud, Jeopardy and an Escape Room we DID NOT escape from, we shared our words and our why. It’s a great way to strengthen relationships and hold one another accountable.

The visual below represents our conversation…. I used Wordart.com for the word cloud, and Canva.com for the Art.

Let’s get into the history of my words, the why and the motivation behind them...

In 2018 I anchored myself in the word PEACE.

Inspired by James 3;17;

He must turn away from evil and do good; He must seek peace and pursue it.

Did you catch the end of that verse? “Pursue it.” Peace does not just come, it is something you have to pursue, similar to happiness in The Declaration of Independence.

In my office I have wall art that says, Seek Peace.

It was a hectic time in 2019, I was at a new campus and change is hard. I wanted to do a good job. At times I would find myself taking a deep breath and thinking peace. I also got into aromatherapy, which I love! I was never a candle person and now I burn candles daily. It relaxes my brain.

In 2020 I anchored myself in the word INTENTIONAL.

My theme song for this was Intentional by Travis Greene. I even had my youth group sing it for Youth Day that year! It’s a beautiful song, I would play it on my way to work and my babies and I would JAM!

“All Things Are Working For My Good!”

I wanted to be intentional in everything I did. This was my second year as an Assistant Principal and I planned everything with the end in mind until it became a natural habit. I used the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People for my journey. I have a blog on my habit 3 journey, Put First Things First. Read it, if you want to improve Work/Life balance.

I bet you are wondering what my word is this year, my husband says it’s two words. I’m like, whatever!

In 2021 I am anchoring myself in SELF-DISCIPLINE!

My husband and I are on a journey to financial freedom. We have Read Financial Peace by Dave Ramsey, and we have started building up to baby step one. One thing that sticks out to me is dealing with your biggest problem, YOU! It forces you to look in the mirror and analyze why you are struggling financially.

I highly recommend this book and this program, if you need an accountability partner my friend who motivated me to get started Franchelle Caesar is a Dave Ramsey Certified Financial Coach. Text Fran to 44144 for more information. She is amazing. I also bought her budget planner on Etsy. Check her out!

I have my reading list pretty much set for the first half of the year…...

I also recently purchased a book titled, One Word That Will Change Your Life By Jon Gordon, Jimmy Page & Dan Britton. It comes in the mail Sunday.

If you have not chosen a word yet, don’t get intimidated, pick one or pick a couple and anchor yourself. Think of this as a baby step towards growth. Post your word in the comments!

Good Luck & Happy New Year From the Morgan’s!
